Chimney Rock, NC is located on the very eastern area of Henderson County.  It is home to the Chimney Rock State Park, and was built around this Historic Landmark.

Chimney Rock is a very quaint town, with it’s main focus being tourism. Main Street is about eight blocks long, lined with great local shops full of fun products, ranging from hiking gear to souvenir shops. There are a lot of great places to eat as well.

All of this follows the French Broad River, which is spectacular in itself. Wide and rocky, the water is fabulous to watch, and you can have your pick of many places to sit and eat a great meal while watching the river flow. There is also a small hiking path along the river, so you can really feel the effects of it. And there is great trout fishing as well.

Of course, one can’t talk about Chimney Rock without talking about what got the town started in the fist place. Located above the town and looming tall is Chimney Rock State Park. Originally, it was a privately owned and operated park, by the Morse family since 1902. You can read about the Morse Family History and park ownership, and why it is now a State Park. The park has expanded over the last few years in a move to protect more mountain land from development, and preserve it for everyone to enjoy. The Chimney Rock State Park is at the base of the Hickory Nut Gorge, and is a fabulous place to visit if you are in the area.

I stopped into the Old Rock Cafe for a bite to eat a while back. They have the best burgers and fries, and a great deck overlooking the river that flows along the back of the shops along the highway.

The Village has provided a great walkway along the river. It runs behind the shops and is landscaped and allows access to the river and the beautiful rocks. Several eateries have decks overlooking the water, making for a great ambiance.

I really love the drive out to this area and fall is the best time of all. It was gorgeous today. The leaves are beautiful right now and the day was sunny and perfect. I had time to walk along Main street before heading home.
